CRACK TO THE MIND -EGO- (2020)

This work emerged from a moment of plastic catharsis, where the primal energy of my existence merged with thoughts and emotions, sometimes surfacing clearly, other times remaining hidden in the layers. It is a space of revelation, yet it is not entirely mine alone; it invites the viewer to step in, as though peering through a crack, to witness what has transpired within.

The piece holds this tension between what is shown and what remains unseen, offering just enough to stir the imagination, while leaving room for personal interpretation. The viewer becomes both observer and participant, witnessing something intimate yet open, something raw yet deliberate.

Immersive art installation

For the development of this work I relied on strategies such as repetition, deformation, concealment and encryption, making use of space and taking into account the entrance door in the room and therefore the viewer’s path. Symmetry was a key element to represent the rational mind that I managed to achieve through visual resources, and the need to make the viewer feel like an intruder in that space with technical resources.

I used an Arduino UNO microprocessor that, with a simple programming language, and with the help of an ultrasound sensor and an SD card reader module, played the audio track 1 Uncomfortable (phonetic poetry) as the viewer it entered the room, and it was restarted with the passage of another spectator.

With the phonetic poetry of Uncomfortable and the introduction of languages whose use is not common in the Spanish cultural context, where the piece was presented (Dutch and German), I saw and took the opportunity to encrypt and camouflage events and details, without compromising purity of the emotions that aroused in me, also to avoid directly mistreating the psyche of the spectators. Thus I generated the audio tracks 2 The voices of the ego and 3 Randomly at Home. These tracks looped inside the room all the time.
